Teachers, thanks for talking to your students about school bus safety.
This website, www.schoolbussafety.ca is divided into content for both children and adults.
New Content
The children’s section is accessed by clicking on the cartoon picture on the home page. We've added two new games, in addition to the existing cartoon story and quiz. See the LESSON PLAN for directions on assisting children in playing these games. The children's section is available in English and French.
Website Contest
At the end of the quiz/games is a place for the children to enter the name of their classroom, school and teacher. 3 classrooms in Nova Scotia will win a $150 cash prize. We have extended the contest deadline to November 30, 2009.
Other Elements Of The School Bus Campaign
Police will hand out information cards to the driving public at checkpoints around the province. The cards will describe the penalty for passing a school bus illegally. The fine is $394.50 and 6 points against the license for a first offense, out of court settlement.
Police agencies may also step up enforcement, or make classroom visits. You may wish to have a police officer come to your school. If one is not already scheduled, contact your local police agency.
Another idea is to invite a school bus driver to speak to the class. The transportation coordinator for your school board can put you in touch with a driver.
Your Comments
Your opinion of the school bus safety website and lesson plan is extremely important to Safety Services Nova Scotia. We would sincerely like to hear your comments, concerns and/or suggestions for making the campaign even more effective in teaching children about school bus safety, and in using the campaign to help you achieve your learning objectives in the classroom.
Please email Arminta Kennedy at kennedy@safetyservicesns.ca by November 30, so that we may properly evaluate the campaign’s success.
